Islandstyle Classic February 28-29

Gusty conditions, starting out cold and warming up, and great, competitive racing...  Prodigys were mostly planing on the downwind legs, and mostly using blades on the upwind--although Darby Marriot often tried planing upwind, which either gave him big gains or big losses.  Fleet first was taken by 2002 NA Champion Sean Hawes, with Darby second and Al Simmons right behind.  Lightweights Susan Simmons and Barbara Fisher had some good races early, but fell back when the wind picked up.  Susan stuck it out for the long distance race 3 miles downwind and back along the intracoastal waterway.  There was a small sport fleet as well--it was great to see new faces out there.  For complete results see www.islandstylewatersports.com and for more coverage see www.uswindsurfing.org.
